Climb Mt. St. Helens and ski down with Bill and Libby, May, 2007

Good times. Pictures, as always, are here.

Yes, those are dresses -- or more accurately, tutus. Or were they square dance skits? In any case, it was Mother's Day, and it's a northwest tradition to wear a dress and climb or ski St. Helens. I think there were something like 300+ permitted climbers that day, and we were just 3 of them. I will say that more than once we were told we had the prettiest dresses on the mountain.

Making Mom proud... :)

Skiing the Coleman Pinnacle by Mt. Baker with Bill, Libby, Josh, and Tim

Well, fourth time's a charm, I guess. We tried twice last year and didn't really ski the pinnacle either time -- once we stopped short because it was getting late in the day and the second time we made it all the way, but only skied very short runs in the very dense fog. We tried once again earlier this year and got turned back due to inclement weather.

This time, the weather worked out, the timing was good, and the visibility was the best I've ever seen up there. Rainier was even visible, albeit just barely.

New pictures are located here.

West Coast Trail pictures

Pictures are here. Brett's been posting leading up to the trip (which includes a link to his raw pictures). And there will be a blog post trip report later; I promise.

Why I hate Powerpoint (or at least why I hate how most people use it)

Seth Godin has a great write-up about Really Bad Powerpoint. Like he says, Bullets Are For the NRA. :)

Hint: the answer is not “God-given talent"

"The Effort Effect"

Love it. I remember a guy in high school who probably wasn't the smartest person around, but he always got really good grades. I don't think I've ever seen anyone study harder than this guy did. The Freakonomics guys wrote at this at one point as well.

BTW, Guy Kawasaki wrote The Macintosh Way back in 1990 which had a big impact on me at the time. I think I still have it; I should go back and read it again and see what I think of it now...
